The Wah Wah Pedal
There are many pedal effects that changed the sound of rock and
roll. Phasers, flangers, and wah-wah pedals added a new dimension
to funk, rock, blues, and R&B guitar sounds.
Wah-Wah Pedal Evolution
The first wah-wah pedals were very simple devices which had transistors,
resistors, and a potentiometer (pot). When the pedal is moved back
and forth, the inside of the pot moves just like a volume pot or
tone pot does on your guitar. This changes the tone of the guitar
(which is plugged into the wah-wah) from low-midrange frequency
to very high frequency.
In this year 2002, there are as many different brands and models
of wah-wah's as there are guitars. Here are some different kinds:
- Wah/Volume - combination wah-wah pedal and
volume pedal.
- Modeling Wah - choose from about 10 different
types of sounds. Also, program your own sounds.
- True-Bypass Wah - When the pedal is off, there
is no tone degradation.
- Contour Wah - Has 2 knobs that can adjust the
wah frequency and level.
Wah Pedal Exercises
Here are a couple of simple wah exercises that will help you get
