Guitar Notes and Symbols- Notation Explained - Page 2

    In the picture below are different music and guitar notes and symbols. Try to memorize the symbols and any note relationships.

  1. The sharp symbol raises the pitch of a note by a half step

  2. The flat symbol lowers the pitch of a note by a half step

  3. The tie - a curved line which connects two notes of the same pitch. This tells you to hold the first note for the duration of both notes

  4. The slur - a curved line which connects two different notes. When you see a slur on the tab staff,
    it notates either a hammer-on or a pull-off (See Hammer-ons/Pull-offs lesson)
