Guitar Solo Lesson - Phrasing and Form 2

In part 2 of this guitar solo lesson, we will show you some examples of great guitar solos which use motifs, and theme and variation.

ACDC Back in Black Solo

Like all of Angus Youngs' guitar solos, this is a brilliantly-crafted bone crusher!! From the git go, The solo hits you over the head with twisting, growling licks that telescope into even tougher lick variations.

Back In Black Phrase (HEAR IT!)

Practice Track (HEAR IT!!)

This phrase from Back In Black uses the notes of the E Blues 7th position scale. This is the same as the E Blues open position scale, just one octave higher.

On Your Own

Now that you have some more knowledge of phrases, theme and variation, and repeated variation, practice these techniques using the E Blues Scales, Pentatonic Scales, or any others you like.

For the E Blues Scale, use the practice tracks on this page or page 1 of the Creativity in Solo lesson.

Also, be sure to listen closely to your favorite solos. I'll guarantee you will hear these techniques in most of them!!
