Guitar Solo - Guitar Lessons - Creating Your Solo
Find out how to create your dream guitar solo. It feels like flying!
- There are a lot of different types of
guitar solos - those which seem to
go on forever, those which are only
as long as a Verse, or those which are very
short(4 to 8 measures long). Guitar
Solos can be melodic, moody, or flashy,
etc...
- You will try to make use of some
or all of the guitar techniques that you've
learned up to now. Slides, bends, vibratos, runs,
repeated notes. etc...
- Think about the shape of the guitar solo.
The shape is formed by changes in volume,
intensity(repeated ideas or
notes), range(pitch of the
notes), tension(repeated ideas),
release(use of half or whole notes), or texture(single
to double notes).
- Following is an E blues solo which I created
for you. Listen to it, read about it, practice
it, then try to create your own
guitar solo using similar elements. You can either create
one spontaneously with the practice track, or write
out a solo in Tab notation and practice it (Go
to the Write your own page)

Elements of the solo
|
1. Solo starts with a repeated idea(builds
tension) |
2. Then a small lick ending with a release(long note)
|
| |
4. Solo ends with repeated double notes
into a pull-off lick |
3. The repeated idea and small lick are repeated |
