Guitar Lessons - Guitar Notation Reference

Refer to the bend, bend and release, and slide notation below for instructions on playing and reading specific guitar techniques.

1/4 Bend-don't compare to another note 1/2 Bend-compare to
1 fret higher
Whole Bend-compare to 2 frets higher

1 1/2 Bend-compare to 3 frets higher.

How to practice the Bend and Release:

  1. Play it, then play the comparison note(like in simple bends). The peak of the bend, before the release, should sound like the comparison note.
  2. If you are accidentally pulling another string when releasing, use your other free finger(s) to touch that string while releasing.
