Guitar Strings/Care - Electric or Acoustic guitar

How often you change your guitar strings depends on many factors such as:

  1. How bright or dull do you like them to sound?
  2. How often do you play the guitar?
  3. How do you take care of them?
  4. How much money do you have?

Here is a chart to follow providing that you wipe your guitar strings down after every time you play, you prefer that they sound fairly pure and alive, and you are not broke.

The condition of your guitar strings deteriorates because they are made of steel. The oils and dirt from your fingers build up on the them, this causes corrosion which makes the strings sound dull.. Humidity can also cause them to corrode. Even if you don't play at all, your guitar strings will deteriorate over time.

I play the guitar:

30 minutes to 1 hour a day
